If you’re in NZ and you’re lucky enough to have received one of these you’ll know the certain amount of glee you get from coming home to see one of these sitting on your doorstep.
If you don’t know what this is, go to sampleco.co.nz and sign up. The whole idea is you sign up to their website giving them some personal details (not TOO personal), and a certain amount of people get selected per campaign to “test” a set of products and give feedback. Once you receive your box you get sent a survey to complete and some challenges for each of the products. The more active you are on social media and responding to the survey increases your chances of getting more boxes of goodies. What’s the point? Well, the companies participating get valuable market research, and we get free shit 🙂
So! First up: Natures Fresh Sliders (Link broken at the time of publishing)
According wo Wikipedia: A slider is an American term for a small sandwich, typically around 3 in (7.6 cm) across, served in a bun. The term primarily refers to small hamburgers, but can also cover any small sandwich served on a slider roll. The term, when used in reference to a small hamburger, refers to a small hamburger patty served on a small bun.
So I thought, what’s more american than a Sloppy Joe?
The recipe for my filling is pretty easy, dice up some Green Capsicum, half a large onion and finally grate a Carrot and run your knife through it a few times. Sweat these down in some Oilive Oil and Salt until softened. Remove from the pan and bring it back up to temperature.
Add your ground meat (Pork, Chicken or in my case, Beef) and brown while breaking it apart as much as possible. Now is the time to add some flavour. I used some dried Oregano, Smoked Paprika, HP Sauce, Worcester Sauce, Black Pepper a touch of MSG and Garlic Powder. Stirs these in while the meat browns.
Once the meat is browned, dump in a tin of crushed tomatoes and stir. Season with sale to taste and simmer for 10 mins.
Toast the Slider buns on a griddle pan or under the grill in the oven, top with your Sloppy Joe mix and serve 🙂
